History
Barton Brands was established, just after the repeal of prohibition in 1933, by Oscar Getz and Lester Abelson from Chicago. In 1944 they acquired a whiskey/bourbon facility in Bardstown, Kentucky called the Tom Moore Distillery - today this is still owned by Sazerac, and is known as the Barton 1792 Distillery. Oscar Getz was a keen collector of whiskey memorabilia and this collection is housed today in the Oscar Getz Museum in Bardstown.
Barton Brands Ltd. and the Barton Distillery Co. were acquired in 2009 by Sazerac Company Inc. – an independent family owned business.
Tasting Notes
Clear. Delightfully attractive citrus zest aromas. Smooth and silky on the palate, and could well be compared to London Extra Dry styles. Perfect for a martini. The crisp, dry taste that gin drinkers prefer.
On the nose is citrus (lemon). On the palate, this medium bodied spirit continues to display a strong citrus flavor. It is smooth for a product at this low a price and sure to be a winner with low budget requirements.
