Favourite Traditional and New Wholesale Spirits
With young people in Thailand getting more interested in all types of whisky, providers of wholesale spirits see a noticeable increase in their distribution business.
There was a time about a decade ago when whisky manufacturers were worried that their product wasn't appealing to the new generation. Sales were down for all spirits as wines and beers became the new popular drinks. Craft beers and boutique wineries were all the rage, and the sales of spirits suffered.
But as the tastes and palates of these young beer and wine lovers began to mature, they started becoming intrigued by the rich history, as well as the new innovations, that the various varieties of whisky represented.
Types of Whiskys
With the addition of Japanese whisky making inroads into the traditional whisky market, there are now five main varieties of whisky and several sub-varieties. Let’s look at the main varieties that people all over the world have developed a fondness for.
Scotch whisky is made in Scotland, using a mixture of malted barley, water, and yeast, and aged for at least three years in oak casks. The five categories of scotch whisky are some of the world's most popular, including single malt, single grain, blended malt, blended grain, and blended Scotch.
Irish whiskey is produced in Ireland and is known for its smoothness and sweetness. The ingredients are a mixture of malted and un-malted barley that's triple-distilled and aged for at least three years. Irish whiskey is typically smoother and less smoky tasting than Scotch.
American whiskey is made in the US and includes rye, bourbon, and Tennessee whiskey. Bourbon is at least 51% corn and aged in charred oak barrels. Rye whiskey is made from at least 51% rye. Tennessee whiskey is a type of bourbon that’s filtered through coal.
Canadian whisky is made in Canada, and it's known for its light and smooth taste. It's typically made from a mix of grains that includes corn, rye, and barley. Canadian whisky is aged for at least three years in oak barrels, and it's known for its light flavour profile.
Japanese whisky has grown in popularity over the years and is known for its balance and complexity. It's made from a variety of grains including barley, corn, and rice, and is aged in oak barrels. Japanese whisky is often blended, and it's known for its smoothness and light flavour.
Whisky Market in Thailand
Young whisky drinkers are explorers, and they like to explore the many brands and flavours of whisky on offer in Thailand. But they definitely have a preference for Scotch whisky. Four of the five top-selling whisky brands in Thailand are brands of Scotch.
Ambrose Wines & Spirits, one of the leading distributors of wines and spirits in Thailand, offers several quality Scotches, including Glengoyne single malt whisky. Many people think the term “single malt” refers to a single specific variety of malted barley. In fact, the term refers to the single distillery where the whisky is made. A Glengoyne single malt whisky refers to a whisky that’s made in the Glengoyne distillery using the pot still distilling method.
Single malt whiskies are often softer and smoother than other Scotches, with flavour characteristics of cream, honeysuckle, cinnamon, toffee, and ginger, among other elements.
Many of the whisky aficionados in the country like to explore the wide variety of whiskies available and discover new and exciting flavours, like Fireball Whiskey. Fireball Whisky is the fastest-growing brand in the US and across Europe. Ambrose Wine and Spirits have brought it to Thailand, which is the first country in Asia to carry it.
This blend of Canadian Whisky and natural cinnamon flavours is designed to add a bit of spice to your gathering or event. It’s getting people’s attention all over the country who love it for the spicy sweetness it offers. Fireball Whiskey is the perfect example of how whisky manufacturers are creating a buzz that appeals to the new breed of whisky drinkers while still maintaining the much-loved traditions, like single malt distillery methods, that old-school whisky drinkers are attracted to.
